What was your first car?

It may have been a clapped-out rust bucket, it may have been brand spanking new, but we all remember our first car no matter how long ago it was. We recently asked the question on our LinkedIn company page and received more than 800 comments. Here’s a selection of some of the answers.

Larry Barker - ‘Austin 1100 with no synchromesh, biting point or handbrake. Oh and the hydrolastic suspension had a leak. I had a flat tyre and the jack went straight through the sill when I tried to change the tyre.’

Paul Crulley - ‘A red 1977 plated Honda Accord hatchback in 1986. Looked the business but couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding! Used to conk out at lights and once on the moors between Rothbury and Alnwick. Got a tow all the way home but I loved that car regardless.'

Anthony Robert Holt – ‘Datsun 120y Coupe in white on a P plate now showing my age followed by Vauxhall Chevette hatchback both good cars in the day!’

Graham Ramsay – ‘Mine was a gold 1981 Lancia Beta HPE that I bought when it was 4 years old complete with rust!! I kept that car for about 14 years. It handled well and was fairly quick in its day.'

Josie Foster - ‘A Fiat 126 in two tone white and rust. I remember travelling on the M62 one Friday night, from Castleford to Manchester, and the poor little thing struggled to get to 40mph on the hills in a head wind.'

Mark King – ‘MK11 1600 sport Escort in Signal Yellow, adjustable Spax, K&N filter, Janspeed exhaust ! KC day lighters and roll cage, a true Essex Car!’

Cathryn Anglicas – ‘A beige Y reg Fiesta complete with brown interior, 4 gears and manual choke ... oh and a tendency to cut out at major junctions and refuse to start again!!
